Vulnerability is not weakness; it is our greatest courage.

Employee Spotlight: Theresa Wheeler, LPC/S, LAC/S, MAC, CS
Tell Us About You.
Hi, My name is Theresa and I am originally from Illinois. I moved to the Greenville area in 2009 and absolutely love the life I have built in South Carolina with my husband. I have had the pleasure of being a therapist for over 25+ years. I have a passion for working with clients who desire to be able to live their authentic life and have the connections in their life that support their goals. I see both adults and children (typically over the age of 8). I strive to meet people where they are and walk with them on the path of healing.
What Do You Enjoy Most About Evolution of Self Counseling?
I love working with a team of therapists who love and support each other. All working towards the common goal of helping others heal and live a life that is worth living. Diversity of specialization and target populations brings out team strength.
What is A Career Highlight or Success?
My training and certification in Branspotting has been highly influential in allowing me to provide effective trauma treatment. Brainspotting supports the clients brain and body while allowing for deep processing. I have seen an incredible increase in positive outcomes with the incorporation of Brainspotting into my clinical practice.
What Motivates You?
The simple answer would be chocolate. The complex answer is seeing my clients come back after their first Brainspotting session and be able to explore new insights and healthy changes that have been occurring between sessions.
What are Your Self-Care Must Dos?
Spending time with my husband and dogs (Mia and Ellie Lou). Reading, talking to friends, and baking fill me with joy.
What is Your Favorite Song or Favorite Quote?
You cannot get a yes if you do not risk a no.
What is a Turning Point in Your Life?
Moving to SC to be with my now husband was the greatest leap of faith that I have ever experienced in my life. I had always told my friends that I would know my person when I met them. Our first in person meeting felt like God letting me know that the wait was worth it.
What Are Clients Saying About Theresa Wheeler, LPC/S, LAC/S, MAC, CS
“Theresa has been a joy to work with! She is great active listener! She made me feel very comfortable from our first session and just really goes the extra mile for me. I would recommend her without a doubt!”
“Theresa saved my marriage. Her work, and dedication to people with brains affected by TBIs is unparalleled. I don’t even think she realizes how much she’s helped. Not only has she helped him, she’s helped me navigate some bumps in the road and has not only used brain spotting, but she’s also given good hand outs and tools for the parenting tool box. I recommend her all the time.”
“Theresa is truly a compassionate and well skilled therapist. Our Brainspotting work transformed my Complex PTSD. She is the Brainspotting specialist I refer people to with complete and total confidence.”
“I have been working with Theresa for more than a year now. To say she has been a positive in my mental health self-care journey is an understatement! I have made more progress identifying underlying issues, triggers, and implementing strategies in the time I have been working with Theresa than with anyone else I have worked with in the years before meeting her. Theresa is knowledgeable regarding strategies other than traditional "talk" sessions. She introduced me to brainspotting and never leaves my side with the discoveries. Theresa creates a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for our sessions resulting in more productive sessions including sometimes telling me something I may not want to hear while being extremely supportive. I look forward to my continued mental health journey with Theresa.”
Theresa helped me understand so much about myself and made me feel like it was okay to express how I feel to others. I was in a bad place when I talked to her but I really did feel so much better after our sessions and that whatever I felt were completely valid feelings and I’m so grateful to her for teaching me these things.
“I’ve been with Theresa for 3 1/2 years now. I had been in the hospital and two different trauma treatment facilities for the past 9 months, and when I came home, wasn’t able to continue with my previous therapist, so I was in a pretty dark place. Theresa literally saved my life. She met me where I was and has helped me work through multiple flashbacks and dissociations. She helped me work through the loss of my job as a result of health complications, did brainspotting and other trauma work, and I can honestly say I’m in the best place I’ve been emotionally in the past 10 years. She even brought me cupcakes last year to celebrate when I went 1-year self-harm free. She consistently goes above and beyond, and I couldn’t be more thankful to her and for her. She’s the best!”

“I have worked with Theresa in a couple of settings and as a co-owner of Evolution of Self Counseling, I honestly do not know what I would do without her. She is so conscientious and supportive in all capacities. Theresa is a ROCK. She is able to hold space for challenges and has a knack for knowing when and how to provide support. She is so intuitive. You can’t get nothing past this woman! This strength makes her such an exceptional therapist because she can sense that which is unspoken. Theresa is also highly skilled, making her such a great partner to learn from! She keeps me accountable while still holding space for me to grow and change. If that isn’t a great partner, friend, and therapist, I don’t know what is!!”

“Without a doubt, Theresa is an expert in her field. Her ability to blend compassion and honesty guides her clients to foster the same within themselves. This makes space for the brutal honesty that therapy requires, yet makes it not feel so painful. On top of this, Theresa's sense of humor can brighten anyone's day, and her smile is infectious. As a supervisor, her clinical guidance and encouragement are invaluable to me. I am grateful to work alongside her!”
