Vulnerability is not weakness; it is our greatest courage.

My name is Madison Boynton, and I am an LPC-A at EOS. I grew up in northern Illinois, moved to Michigan for college and recently relocated to Greenville. I have worked with clients in higher education and in private practice.
What Do You Enjoy Most About Evolution of Self Counseling?
I most enjoy the range of experiences that everyone at EOS has. Our backgrounds are diverse, and these experiences provide us with a wealth of knowledge that we use to support each other when caring for clients.
What is A Career Highlight or Success?
I am so privileged to partner with clients and witness the progress and accomplishments they make. Watching clients gradually change the way they talk to themselves is what I would say is the highlight of my work with them. When we are able to make progress in this area and show ourselves more compassion, it feels like everything else starts to click into place!
What Motivates You?
I am motivated by sharing life with others. Whether it is a friend or a client, having the privilege of knowing someone’s story and being a part of their story, even for a short period, fills me with joy and energy like nothing else.
What are Your Self-Care Must Dos?
Getting outside! Hiking, biking, walking, hammocking, you name it! If I can be outside (and it’s not terribly hot), then I’m happy. I also enjoy yoga, practicing guitar, listening to music, baking, and reading.
What is Your Favorite Song or Favorite Quote?
I don’t know if I can pick a favorite, but a song I have been enjoying recently is I Don’t Like It by Jack Ingram, Miranda Lambert, and Jon Randall. It’s simple and sweet.
What is a Turning Point in Your Life?
This may be cliché but meeting my husband. I struggled with perfectionism a lot when I was younger (still working on it) and all my focus was on academics. My husband is not a perfectionist and not academically driven, yet his life looked a lot like how I wanted mine to look at the time. I realized that maybe I didn’t need to be perfect in the ways I thought I did to be “successful” (a subjective term anyway). Changing my measure of self-worth from academic success to people and activities I was truly passionate about changed everything for me.

If you could be an animal, what animal would you be and why?
I would be an elephant! I’ve always loved how elephants are gentle giants. Their capacity to feel emotions, backed by multiple research studies, is amazing and resonates with me.
What would be your dream vacation?
My dream vacation is to visit Redwood National Park. I love being outside, hiking, and camping. I would be ecstatic to be surrounded by those massive trees and experience the grandeur of being in those woods. Being in nature helps me to slow down and regain perspective when life feels overwhelming.
What is one thing that you would like to accomplish in your lifetime?
A measurable goal I have is to become a certified yoga teacher. I started yoga because I had some back pain that I couldn’t shake, and slowing down and connecting with your body is a big part of how I approach therapy, so I figured I better do it too!
A less measurable goal I have is to slow down and feel comfortable doing nothing. I am a person who tends to make myself busy and take on too much. I’ve been working hard to set better boundaries around my time and make space in my life to do activities I enjoy for no reason other than I enjoy them. This is not easy and will be a lifelong goal!
What is Your Guilty Pleasure?
Puppy hugs and chocolate!!!
