Vulnerability is not weakness; it is our greatest courage.

Tell Us About You.

Employee Spotlight: Jennifer Pence, LPC-A

I am a mom of 4 young adult children that I love to spend time with. Three of my children have Autism Spectrum Diagnosis. My love for working with those with ASD comes from spending my life raising and nurturing my own children with this diagnosis. I have spent their lifetimes educating myself and them about ASD, coping strategies, life skills, emotional regulation, social anxiety, and so much more. This is my safe and happy place. I also enjoy spending time with my dogs, Samanta and Cooper. Samanta is a diva and Cooper is a big baby and gets into everything. I’m a big animal lover. If I wasn’t doing what I do now, I would want to work with animals in some capacity.

What Do You Enjoy Most About Evolution of Self Counseling?

I love working at Evolution of Self Counseling. This is a new chapter in my life, and the realization of a lifetime goal. EOS is now another one of my safe places in life. I get to learn from mentors, while also being able to help others.

What is A Career Highlight or Success?

Everyday is a career highlight. Working with individuals with autism and individuals who have been in domestic violence situations, I am always in awe of the resiliency of the human spirit. Life gives us so much to wade through and some of it is really, really hard. Watching individuals overcome their challenges and find their footing is just an amazing experience.

I know that everyone has struggles including myself. Pain is inevitable in this lifetime. Suffering is optional. I know that everyone needs true support at many times throughout their lives. Helping others is what motivates me.

What are Your Self-Care Must Dos?

I love music and have listened to all types of music at different periods of my life. Christian music is my go-to these days. Rescue and You Say by Lauren Daigle are favorites. Recently Good Day by Forrest Frank is how I’m starting my mornings.

What is Your Favorite Song or Favorite Quote?

“It is never too late, no matter how old you get because anytime or any point in your life you can always have a chance to make a difference. You can always make a change for the better no matter what background you derived from. You can always do your best and be all that you can be because you will always be uniquely you. It is why it is always wise to listen to your eternal heart, your eternal instincts, and what it had always strove for and/or to do because really anybody can make a difference not only in their own lives but in the lives of others. It is never too late to shine; never.”
— George Eliot

What is a Turning Point in Your Life?

Relationships have always been challenging for me. A big part of this was my anxiety and awkwardness. Life doesn’t always go as predicted and this was certainly true for me. I married and divorced, leaving a very unhealthy situation and becoming a single mother with four young children. Three of my children would later receive Autism Spectrum Diagnoses. I went from being a stay-at-home mom to working two jobs barely getting by. These years were some of the most difficult in my life, but they were also the most amazing. I learned to speak up for myself and my children. I learned to stop being what everyone else wanted or expected and to be okay with being myself. I guess you could say, I finally learned to be comfortable in my own skin. I am still naturally a quiet person, but I also can be strong and roar if the situation calls for it. No one wants difficult times in life, but we all have them. This period, for me, took me to my knees, but I couldn’t let it keep me there. I had to learn to not only accept myself as I was but to like who I was. This was something I had never experienced before. A significant part of this was learning how I ended up there in the first place—nature vs. nurture. I realized that I have many of the same qualities as my children, which were a part of their ASD diagnosis. I also realize how many of my experiences as a child played a part in who I had been. Therapy was a big part of my healing. Now, as a therapist, I have a passion for supporting others who may find themselves in the difficult times of their life. Whether it’s navigating in a neurotypical world as someone who is neurodiverse, having anxiety, depression, experiencing domestic violence, relationships, or learning more about yourself. I would love to walk alongside you and offer support if you find yourself here.

If you could be an animal, what animal would you be and why?

If I was an animal, I would be a bunny or a deer. I love these two animals because they are sweet and gentle. They’re not predators, but survivors. They have the skills to not just live in the wild, but they thrive. Don’t be fooled by their sweetness. They have amazing strength.

What would be your dream vacation?

My dream vacation would be in the mountains with my family and dog samantha. For me, who I'm with is more important than where I am. However, the mountains are one of my favorite places.

What is one thing that you would like to accomplish in your lifetime?

Where I am right now is realizing a life long goal. I have come to this place later in life than most. It shows that age is no barrier to success. You're never too old, and it's never too late to achieve your goals.
